Converting an unused loft is a fantastic way to add an additional room to your home, whilst also adding value to your property at the same time.
Rooms in the loft make for attractive living space and are very popular. With sloping ceilings and skylight windows, the conversion can enhance your home by creating different and interesting areas to work, sleep & live in.
Most loft conversions are used for an extra bedroom or two with an en suite bathroom. Other popular uses include a teenage den, cinema room or home office. If your home has amazing views, you could consider moving some of the living spaces up into the new loft to take advantage of them.
We will deal with all aspects of the conversion from planning to the final decoration. A member of our team will always be on hand to answer any questions you may have throughout the conversion.
At Prestige For Your Home, we work with local architects and building control to offer the full design and build service to create the loft conversion of your dreams.
Loft Conversion Types & Ideas
Roof light loft conversion
These type of conversions require the least amount of structural work to the existing space and are therefore the most cost-effective.
Dormer loft conversions
Dormer conversions are the most popular as they are the easiest way to add light and increase the maximum floor space of the conversion, creating all of the extra room you desire.
Hip-to-gable loft conversions
This type of conversions is most commonly found on the side of either end terrace or semi-detached houses. The hipped side roof is removed and the end wall is then built up straight to form a new vertical gable.
Mansard loft conversions
These type of loft conversions create extra volume. The process involves the replacement or either one or both roof slopes with very steep sloping and a flat roof over the top.
The Loft Conversion Process
To give you a fixed price for your loft conversion we will need architectural drawings and structural engineer’s calculations. If you don't have these yet we can still come out and assess the suitability of your conversion, run through your ideas and add some of our own so you make the most of the extra space you desire. From that, we will be able to give you a guideline price for the works.
If you don't have architectural drawings for which we need to provide you with a fixed price quotation, we arrange for an architect to visit you and provide the drawings. At this stage, they will also assess whether you will need planning permission for the proposed loft conversion.
After the quotation is accepted we will then submit a planning application if necessary.
At the same time, we will submit your building notice, which informs the local authority of the impending works. The building inspector will come out and check the works during the conversion allowing for the final building certificate to be issued at the end of the loft conversion in Northampton.
When all of the paperwork is sorted and submitted then the construction work can start.
